SUMMARY
The Principal Engineer ? Analog/PCB Hardware Development will provide leadership for and support the analog signal chain and PCB hardware design and development needs for a variety of consumer-grade and carrier-grade networking equipment. Job responsibilities include contributing to the specification, design, implementation, system integration, testing/quality assurance and production release of such equipment.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Include the following; other duties may be assigned:
- Work with other engineers to develop detailed Hardware, Firmware and Software Functional and Design Specifications that address the requirements specified in the Product Requirement Document (PRD) and other requirement specification documents
- Collaborate with Product Management and Systems Engineering teams on requirement specification
- Lead the specification, design and development of analog transmit and receive signal chain designs including modulation/demodulation, filtering and DAC/ADC functions.
- Lead the specification, design and development of board level hardware (PCB)
- Help with the selection of Contract Manufacturer (CM) or Original Device Manufacturer (ODM). Work with the selected CM/ODM partner to introduce and transfer the design into production
- Specify, design, build and troubleshoot Production Verification Testing (PVT) fixture to be employed in the testing of product on the production line
- Work with CM/ODM and appropriate certification labs to achieve and maintain FCC, UL, CSA and any other required certifications of the product
- Evaluate tools and instrumentation required for product development and testing; make recommendations
- Work with other engineers and CM/ODM to troubleshoot and resolve design, development and production issues
- Establish and manage the ECR/ECN/ECO process to track and manage requirement, specification and design changes. Keep all the affected specifications up-to-date periodically
- Work with CM/ODM on component selection, cost-reduction, component supply-chain management and component end-of-life management tasks
- Help negotiate with tool vendors and CM/ODM partners
- Champion delivery of a high quality, cost optimized and competitively priced product under tight budget and timing constraints
- Work with other engineering team members in defining new system architectures and specifications for new features and advanced technologies. Create and/or collaborate on authoring of the documents that specify such architectures and specifications
- Research, inform, and recommend opportunities to apply appropriate technology solutions to support business needs and market opportunities

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- Must have strong theoretical background as well as hands-on experience with the board level development of consumer-grade and/or carrier-grade hardware involving high speed analog and digital sub-systems
- Must have prior experience with analog transmit and receive signal chain designs for communication systems including experience with design of RF systems
- Must have significant prior experience leading board level (PCB) design and implementation efforts involving the full life-cycle of product development from conception to prototyping to mass production by ODM/CM, including the design and implementation of test-fixtures required for assuring the quality of equipment produced on a high capacity production line
- Must have prior experience working with complex designs embedding multiple processing elements. Working knowledge of modern CPU architecture, memory and I/O subsystem, machine/assembly language and Embedded/Real-Time operating systems is highly desirable
- Must be hands-on and be comfortable with Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Vector Signal Analyzers, JTAG/Boundary-Scan, MATLAB, LabView, Schematic Capture, Board Layout and other instruments/tools that aid in design, implementation and troubleshooting of high speed mix-logic (digital and analog) boards
- Must have deep understanding of and proven successful product implementations of the processes, methodology and disciplines required to develop high quality board level hardware for consumer-grade and/or carrier-grade equipment
- Prior experience leading the board level hardware development efforts, including successful high volume production, for DSL, DOCSIS, WiFi and/or WiMAX modems, SOHO Routers, and/or DSLAM/CMTS/Access Point/Base Station is a must
- Deep and broad understanding of industry standard PHY and MAC layer technologies employed in the delivery of wireline and wireless broadband is a must. A good understating of how higher OSI layers operate is highly desirable
- Must be a quick learner to be able to assimilate the unique technological and business aspects of WildBlue?s Network
- Must be a team player and have demonstrated ability to work within and across teams
- Must have strong problem definition, analytical and problem solving skills
- Must have a strong passion for sound Engineering discipline, including the documentation process that goes along with it
- Must be a strong self starter, and be able to take ownership of work responsibilities without any supervision. Good time management skills are essential.
- Good written and oral communication skills are essential
- Demonstrated experience working under tight deadlines and in a dynamic, high-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor and consistently meeting the deadlines
- Prior experience interfacing with third parties, vendors and partners is required
- Must be able to work effectively with the senior management team in defining team?s goals and priorities, and report progress, risks and issues
- US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters degree equivalent in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering (BSEE/MSEE) discipline with at least 10 years of applicable technical experience
- 3-5 years of experience in an Engineering Lead role, at least three of which should be in leading the development of consumer-grade or carrier-grade networking equipment
